The Challenge

Dolby Vivisol, a leading provider of home care health services specialising in home oxygen equipment, faced the challenge of transforming a 1980s office space near Gatwick Airport. The goal was to turn it into a welcoming, contemporary environment that supports employee wellbeing and modern working styles.

The Solution

Optimising the existing space while reworking and reframing it to deliver a “home away from home” environment. Focused on creating a space where team members could shape their own way of working while fostering unity within the company.

The Result

The project not only reflects the international brand but also aligns with the evolving needs and wellbeing of the team creating a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

Dolby Vivisol, having expanded recently, aimed to create a workspace near Gatwick airport that supported modern working practices.

The 1980s building needed an update to align with the international brand, and we helped them seize the opportunity to incorporate the evolving needs and wellbeing of the team into the redesign.

Much of the space was dedicated to a call centre team handling sensitive health-related conversations. The new design aimed to create a more flexible environment, allowing team members to move away from their desks and providing spaces for relaxation and collaboration.

Updating an existing workspace:

Set over two floors, the design capitalised on the natural light from an atrium roof allowing it to flow through to the ground floor.

A central hub was created under the atrium roof on the ground floor comprising a large open tea point, collaboration space, and informal meeting zone. This space served as a gathering point for all departments, promoting a sense of unity and collaboration.

Desk areas and locker spaces were placed around the perimeter of both floors, enabling team members to benefit from natural light, supporting employee wellbeing.

Reworking, reframing, and reinventing the workplace

The design goal was to create a “home away from home” atmosphere, empowering individuals to choose where and how they work. As well as the open plan desk area, the space includes a variety of meeting rooms, private pods, collaboration benches, a soft seating lounge, wellness room, multi-faith room and library all to provide employees with facilities they would have at home.

The incorporation of homely finishes, such as terrazzo-style laminate floors, low-hanging lamps, wood panelling, muted soft furnishings and plant life, contributed to a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Acoustics and privacy were given special attention, supported by sliding partitions and curtains, and optimisation of existing features to reframe the space.

Looking to the future of work

The forward-thinking space we created aligns with the international brand style while catering to the site-specific team. The workplace has now been carefully crafted to pave the way for their future and support their team.

Through a collaborative and trusting relationship with Dolby Vivisol, throughout the design and build, the result showcases an effective transformation that emphasises employee wellbeing and facilitates new ways of working.

We successfully delivered a modern, flexible, and relaxing workspace for Dolby Vivisol. The project not only reflects the international brand but also aligns with the evolving needs and wellbeing of the team. The details in design also make a substantial impact, turning this space into a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

“Dolby Vivisol were really great to work with. As a company, their focus was very much on the wellbeing of the team, and they wanted to use this as an opportunity to take the space into its next phase. With a gentle, but effective approach I think we’ve done exactly that – the details really make all the difference.”
