The Challenge
Arbuthnot Latham needed a new London office that blended traditional banking heritage with modern workplace demands. The design had to separate client and staff environments, support agile working and improve connectivity across eight floors.
The Solution
We created clearly zoned client and staff areas, placing client spaces below and staff above. New staircases improved movement and reduced lift reliance, while centralised meeting zones, a mix of open and private spaces, and heritage-inspired materials delivered a flexible, contemporary office.
The Result
The completed headquarters is calm, elegant and highly functional, offering a seamless experience for clients and staff. It encourages focused work, collaboration and hospitality, reflecting Arbuthnot Latham’s identity and providing a strong foundation for current operations and future growth.
Arbuthnot Latham is a long‑established private and commercial bank renowned for discretion, service and long-term relationships. Providing banking, wealth management and lending services to private clients and businesses, their London headquarters needed to reflect this heritage while fostering a connected, flexible environment for modern work practices.
A Move Driven by Strategy
After a detailed Stay vs. Go analysis, it became clear that relocating was the best path to better reflect the evolving structure of the organisation. The new headquarters not only meets current operational needs but is designed to grow with the business, providing the space, flexibility and facilities required for evolving workflows and client services.
This move also marked Arbuthnot Latham’s third collaboration with our firm, reinforcing a strong, ongoing partnership built on trust and shared vision.
Spaces That Connect Teams
With a single lift core, circulation was a key focus. Strategically placed staircases guide movement between floors, while central meeting and tech-equipped areas ensure teams stay connected. At the heart of the office, the “town square” creates a social and collaborative hub, linking workspaces with client areas. Visitors move effortlessly through elegant client spaces such as private dining, gallery and meeting rooms, while staff enjoy flexible work zones, quiet boardrooms, training facilities and other supportive amenities including catering points, event spaces, a bar and a roof terrace – all integrated to enhance interaction, productivity and overall experience.
Crafted for Lasting Identity
The design balances tradition and modernity. Timber, marble and metal convey permanence and quality, while subtle references to the peacock emblem and rounded forms reflect brand identity. Upper floors use a neutral palette responsive to light, and sustainable choices – reused furniture and carefully selected finishes – support environmental goals without compromising style.
The completed headquarters unites heritage, functionality and flexibility. It fosters a strong sense of identity while supporting contemporary ways of working, ensuring the building serves staff and clients now and in the future.
