The Challenge

The University of Warwick needed a new base for their renowned Psychology Department as part of their wider expansion of science, technology, engineering and mathematics facilities. Riley Court, a former science park building from 1999, had reached the end of its serviceable life. Warwick chose to strip it back to the shell and carry out a full refurbishment that included a moved entrance, a revised facade, new windows, upgraded services and a complete renewal of the interior.

The Solution

We worked with the estates team, the architects and the engineering partners to shape a fast track refurbishment that aligned with Warwick budget, programme and performance goals. The plan delivers new teaching rooms, research spaces, upgraded services, high quality finishes and improved environmental comfort, creating a building ready for advanced academic work.

The Result

The project is progressing well and is scheduled for handover in early 2026.

The University of Warwick is a leading research university known for academic strength, innovation and a strong global reputation. The Psychology Department is recognised for influential research across behaviour, cognition and human development. Riley Court will provide a modern, flexible setting for study, collaboration and specialist research activity.

Designed for Acoustic and Light Control

Research spaces within Riley Court require absolute precision. The sleep study laboratories demand full acoustic separation and complete blackout to prevent any light entering. These conditions shaped the technical details, materials and construction methods used throughout the project.

A Setting Shared with Wildlife

The area around Riley Court is home to birds, ducks, geese and hedgehogs. Site activity has been carefully planned to protect wildlife and maintain the natural character of the campus throughout the refurbishment.
