The Challenge
Greenwich Estates and Facilities manage the maintenance of the university estate, transport, catering, conferences and sustainability. They needed a new office that brought the whole team together to improve communication and efficiency. A suitable space was identified in Devonport House. The team wanted the refurbishment completed quickly so they could become fully operational with minimal delay.
The Solution
We worked with the estates team to understand their occupancy needs and created a design that met these within the agreed budget and programme. The work delivered open plan areas, meeting spaces and improved flow, all shaped to support collaboration and daily coordination.
The Result
The estates team are now fully operational in their new office and extremely pleased with the outcome. The deputy director of estates described the process as smooth and the final space as fantastic.
The University of Greenwich is a respected institution known for strong teaching, research and a historic campus setting. The estates and facilities team play a key role in managing the built environment and supporting students and staff across the university. Their new office needed to reflect their practical role and support efficient daily work.
A Space with a Varied History
Devonport House was previously used as a conference centre and hospitality venue. The building carries a rich history and forms part of the Old Royal Naval College, giving the project a unique setting and character.
Part of a Protected Heritage Site
Devonport House is a Grade II Listed building within a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation World Heritage site. Careful planning and sensitive detailing were essential to respect the heritage and deliver the refurbishment within strict guidelines.
