The Challenge
The university needed a fast paced refurbishment that created a new reception, a help desk, an exhibition gallery and a specialist book sorting room, along with staff and breakout areas. The existing IT help desk was located away from the entrance and was difficult for students to find. The project required a smooth programme while keeping the rest of the library in use.
The Solution
We shaped a welcome hub in direct line of sight of the entrance so students can quickly find the support they need. The exhibition gallery sits close to the main doors to display items and attract visitors. Staff and breakout areas were refreshed to create a modern and comfortable working environment. The design strengthens the arrival sequence and makes the library easier to navigate.
The Result
Students now arrive to a clear and welcoming entrance that helps them understand the library and access services with confidence.

Construction Managed Around Live Library Use
The project was delivered in two phases across the lower ground and ground floors. The upper floors remained fully operational throughout, which required careful planning and clear communication to minimise disruption.
