The Challenge
Downsend School needed a new Sixth Form that would help A Level students perform at a high level. The plan required the conversion of a nineteen nineties office building into a modern and inclusive environment with chemistry laboratories, an art studio and an innovation room. The space needed to support strong academic teaching and provide students with places to study, create and collaborate.
The Solution
We shaped a design that places students at the centre. A common room cafe and a library sit close to reception, giving easy access to study and social spaces. Imaginative lighting leads to the teaching rooms, each fitted with audio visual technology and presentation cabinetry that allows teachers to adjust their approach to suit the class.
The Result
The Sixth Form provides students with a clear bridge to university or the workplace. It offers a calm, supportive and modern environment that reflects the school values and prepares students for their next steps.

The building sits in the centre of Leatherhead within the Surrey Hills. It is a short walk from the rest of the campus and gives students a sense of place and connection while offering a distinct and dedicated environment for Sixth Form life.
