A sustainable workspace for Investindustrial
Creating a seamless workspace filled with natural light and innovative technology for the global private equity firm's new London HQ.

The brief

Create an environment prioritising sustainability and wellbeing and as inspiring as the brand itself, with a focus firmly on the future.

The solution

Centring sustainability and wellness, featuring a cutting-edge gym, meticulous attention to material origins, and the innovative PNAT Air Factory for air purification.

The result

A workspace flooded with natural light that honours the property’s heritage, embodying the brand’s values and environmental commitment.

Investindustrial is a global private equity firm, founded in 1990 by Andrea Campanini Bonomi. When they wanted to relocate their UK offices to the iconic One Hooper’s Court in Knightsbridge, they approached us to help create an environment as inspiring as the brand itself.

A brand with purpose

The company is known for its unflinching eye for detail, which is at the heart of its success. With one eye firmly on the future, this needed to be reflected in the design of the environment.

The office would be set over two floors, all flooded with natural light, whilst paying homage to the heritage of the property and reflecting the values, work, aesthetic style and environmental credentials of the brand.

Working with a refurbished building on a heritage site

One Hooper’s Court itself is not only in an enviable location but it has an interesting history. It had also recently been brought back to life with extensive renovation works at the time of designing the office.

The former fire station features spectacular red brickwork on the outside, while inside vast windows create an abundance of natural light. Nods to the site’s heritage include a floral honeysuckle design that pays homage to John Hooper, a local 18th-century market gardener who originally worked on the land where One Hooper’s Court now stands.

Investindustrial sought a precise environment that served the name, function, and forward motion of the company.

A seamless design concept

Maris Design Director oversaw the collaborative creation of a concept that featured a minimalist natural aesthetic. This began with a poured resin flooring and walls made purely of glass to create an unobstructed view through the space and allow light to flow in. The focus on creating a natural environment that support employee wellbeing was enhanced by green living walls, planting throughout the space and natural wood, ethically sourced.

Sustainability and wellness are a key feature of the working environment, with a state-of-the-art gym, various spaces for employees to choose where and how they work, and the installation of the highly innovative PNAT Air Factory to filter the air using the power of plants and technology.

Investindustrial wanted to pay homage to and promote their Italian values. The employee kitchen and breakout space further supports the creation of community within the business as employees can break away from their work, eat together and build relationships.

The design also included a boardroom, a variety of meeting spaces both private and open, breakout spaces and open plan desking all flexible as a way to optimise the space.

Installing a high-tech environmental ecosystem

A key feature of the office included the installation of an industry leading technology for the wellness of the team and the environment – the PNAT Air Factory. The Fabbrica dell’Aria® (Air Factory) has been created by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, biologists, designers, engineers, and architects in Milan, led by scientist Stefano Mancuso and the PNAT think tank.

Plants grow in glass tanks and air passes through them, returning purified after pollutants have been absorbed by the roots and leaves, converting them to their own nutrients. Bringing tech in harmony with nature, there is also a system of sensors, which send information in real time to a monitor that can verify the quality of incoming and outgoing air and the volume of pollutants removed by the Air Factory, supporting employee wellbeing.

An office like no other

The result is a minimalist workspace carefully design to support employee wellbeing, embodying the brand’s Italian heritage, environmental values and their knowledge of technological innovation.

“This was such a special project to work on, collaborating with a client with incredible vision and a fantastic brand story. It was made even more special by the strong working relationship that we have with Investindustrial, enabling us to really engage with the way they work and support them in achieving their goals for their working environment.”
