A Campus Lounge Designed for Connection
The Student Wellness Lounges at Birkbeck transform a single floor into a lush, inviting hub for student life. Each seating area, from communal tables to soft lounge zones, encourages collaboration and social interaction, naturally drawing students together.
Walls are layered with vibrant botanical wallpaper, integrated greenery and printed graphics, reinforcing a sense of lively wellbeing while visually uniting the floor. Timber, ceramic and tiled finishes complement modern furniture choices, offering tactile variety and subtle nods to Birkbeck’s identity, while book swap shelves, charging points and quiet corners add functional versatility throughout the lounge.
The Heart of the Lounge
Anchoring the space at the rear of the floor, Malet St Coffee Co. serves as both a cafe and social hub. The area features a mix of dining tables, high stools and lounge booths, all designed to support informal study, group work, or simply a break between classes.
Fully equipped with student amenities, the cafe flows seamlessly connects to the surrounding lounge zones, forming a central gathering point where informal learning and social interaction coexist. The design balances functionality with style, creating a contemporary, connected environment that invites engagement, conversation and community across the floor.
